I love the month of January, when it’s my custom to take a break from traveling and performing.
January is when I return to myself. I stay home, reflect, recharge, plan, and prepare for the year ahead.
Mornings are spent fireside, writing music, practicing, and scheduling new tours and concert appearances. Afternoons are for puppy walks and errands. Evenings are pure relaxation.
This year I really needed the reset. 2025 was utterly exhausting! I’m determined to do a better job of pacing myself in 2026, which I’ve christened “The Year of Slow Living.”
So far, so good. January 2026 was just what it needed to be: both rejuvenating and productive.
Accomplished month one objectives while maintaining a relaxed, measured, calm and deliberate pace. No stress. Wu-wei.
Visited two doctors, the dentist, and mechanic, prepared most of the quintet arrangements for this season’s show, broke-in my new horn and mouthpiece, adapted to my new RA meds, and confirmed 75 of the 100 gigs we will play this year. Excelsior!
Also caught up on sleep and dreams.
Now it all starts up again.
Ready? Let’s do this.
